Products and recipes
Selling prices, recipes, sub-recipes and what each product earns.
A product is anything you sell, or anything you make to use in something else.
Add a product
Press Add product and fill in:
- Name and category
- Selling unit, such as piece or kg
- Selling price per unit
- Estimated minutes per unit, the hands-on time to make one. This is optional, and it’s what lets BreadWorks estimate labor.
- The recipe: how much one batch yields, and what goes into it
The selling unit locks once a product has been baked or sold. To sell it in another unit, create a new product and archive this one.
Read the product page
The card at the top shows what one unit earns: the selling price, split into ingredients, labor and margin. The margin is also shown before labor, so you can see both.
Below it is the recipe with the cost of each line and the batch cost. Further down are the selling price history and the recipe history.
Recipes
A recipe is a batch: what it yields, and a list of lines with a quantity per batch. Each line is an ingredient or a sub-recipe.
Use a sub-recipe for anything you make and then use elsewhere, like a sourdough starter or a pastry cream. Add it as its own product and pick it as a line. When its cost changes, the cost of everything that uses it follows. BreadWorks won’t let a recipe contain itself, even through another recipe.
Change a price or a recipe
Press the selling price to give it a new value and a From date. To change the recipe, press Edit recipe and set Changes apply from.
Both create a new version starting on that date. Earlier sales keep the old one. If that date already has a version, saving updates it. See Dates and history.
Find what you need
Use search to find a product by name, and Sort & filter to sort by margin, cost or selling price, group by category or show archived products.
